It once launched some of the most famous ships in the world, now an A-listed structure in Glasgow is to launch thrill-seekers into the air.
Following efforts by a Highland Perthshire firm, the Titan Crane on the River Clyde is to become a bungee jump platform.
For the last four months, the directors of Highland Fling Bungee have been in negotiations to create a 150ft jump from the crane, the last remaining feature of John Brown’s shipyard and a monument to Clydebank’s shipbuilding heritage.
As part of a soft launch, the first adrenaline junkies will hurl themselves from the end of the cantilever this month, with the official opening taking place in June.
Director of Highland Fling Bungee John Mason-Strang said: ”It is an iconic site with a tremendous history and the restoration work that has been done here is amazing. The potential is huge and this will only help raise the profile.
”This project is also an example of partners using joined-up thinking to bring new life to what is a fantastic heritage site.”
Although jumps will initially take place on a limited basis, on the first weekend of every month this will gradually increase through the season.
