Staff from Abertay University are getting set to take part in a charity walk in honour of their friend.

A gallant group of 19 members of the administrative, secretariat and registry staff are to walk from Dundee to Longforgan on Saturday in memory of their friend and work colleague Dawn Keen, who died last year after a suffering from a brain tumour.

Dawn, who was 31, was from Clackmannan and studied and then worked at the university. She was diagnosed with cancer in late 2010 and battled on until September 2011.

The organisers of the walk, Lynne Bewley, Jill Martin and Sue Robertson, were all friends of Dawn and felt the event would be a fitting tribute.

Admissions officer Lynne said: ”Dawn was always happy and smiling. She was a great friend and very supportive of anyone who wanted to talk about something.

”The people who are doing the walk all worked closely with Dawn and her funeral was packed out with people from Abertay. It should be a great event.”

The walkers had looked at taking part in other established charity events but felt that coordinating their own was best.

”We started talking about doing something in memory of Dawn and had a discussion about a few events but we just decided to do our own thing,” Lynne added.

”Two of us are dyeing our hair pink because Dawn had a pink theme at her funeral. We’ve got pink logos on our T-shirts and we just want her to see us enjoying ourselves in her name when she’s looking down at us.”

The team have dubbed themselves Dawn’s Dawdlers and will donate the money raised to Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK’s area volunteer manager Richard Cowie said: ”We are so grateful to Dawn’s Dawdlers for organising what will be such a special day in memory of their friend and donating the proceeds to Cancer Research UK.

“The pioneering work of Cancer Research UK depends upon the efforts of all those who support the charity and so I want to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”You can sponsor the team at www.justgiving.com/BellStreetBlisterSisterCharityWalk
