Stonehaven open air pool enjoys perfect start to season

Around 1,000 people flocked to Stonehaven open air pool on its opening day of the season on Saturday.
The warm weather encouraged large numbers to enjoy the heated outdoor pool in the Mearns.
People started queuing an hour in advance of the pool’s 11am opening, with Newtonhill Pipe Band and Splasher, the pool’s cuddly dolphin mascot, keeping the big crowd entertained.
Local paralympian Murray Dingwall cut the ribbon and declared the pool officially open for the 2012 season.
Chair of the Friends of the Pool Mike Robins said: ”We couldn’t have asked for better weather. The air temperature in Stonehaven was around 22C all day and the water temperature at 30C.”
The pool has special events planned for the Queen’s diamond jubilee day on June 5 with music, an aqua disco and games and competitions for children planned.
The Olympic torch parade will also visit the pool when it comes to Stonehaven on June 12.
