A Fife lifeboat crew were drafted in to help rescue a fisherman who became stranded on rocks off the coast of Prestonpans.
Volunteers with Kinghorn’s RNLI lifeboat were called into action to assist the 57-year-old at around 3pm after he had made his way out to rocks at low tide to try and catch some mackerel.
The man, who was from Musselburgh, then became isolated when the tide came in.
A concerned member of the public raising the alarm when they saw the fisherman stranded with high waves breaking around the rocks he was on.
Crew member Leanne Fisher explained, “We located the casualty on a rock off Prestonpans 17 minutes after launching and although the water was surrounding the rock the man had intended to stay there until the tide went out.
“He had taken measures to mark the tide height but was still glad when the lifeboat arrived and took him back to shore.
“The prevailing weather and sea conditions had made it slightly uncomfortable.
“This would be a good opportunity to remind people taking part in pursuits round the coast to ensure they have the proper equipment.
“This includes a means of summoning help, appropriate clothing, a lifejacket, and possibly informing the Coastguard of their intentions to avoid unnecessary rescue missions.”
The fisherman was uninjured and was quickly taken to shore by the lifeboat crew.
