An Edinburgh funeral is to be held for a former Angus man allegedly murdered in the capital.
Alan Michael Ross, who grew up in Montrose, was found dead by firefighters called to a blaze at his home in the city’s Pilton Drive North on February 27.
Mr Ross, who was 45, is thought to have been brought up in the Borrowfield area, where his parents, Irene and Jimmy, lived prior to their deaths.
Edinburgh friends have described him as a popular character.
His funeral service is to take place at the city’s Warriston Crematorium on Friday.
An elderly resident of the Mearns Drive area where the family lived said, “I knew him when he was a wee boy, but I never saw him after he moved away to Edinburgh.
“I heard about what happened to him and read about it in the paper. It’s very sad.
“Mr and Mrs Ross died a long time ago and I wouldn’t think many people would know the family around here now.”
A 26-year-old Edinburgh man subsequently made a private appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on a petition alleging murder and wilful fire-raising in connection with the discovery of Mr Ross’s body.
