Longforgan man Neil Cumming (46), who is accused of murdering his wife and then smashing his car into a lorry on the A90, is to stand trial at the High Court in June.
It had previously been reported that Cumming, who is being held in the State Hospital, Carstairs, would possibly not be tried in court as he may be suffering from paranoid delusional beliefs and be unfit to stand trial.
Lawyers are still considering medical reports on him but, at a brief hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on Wednesday, defence QC John Hamilton suggested the first day of Cumming’s trial could hear psychiatric evidence.
Cumming’s wife Barbara (40), usually known as Jane, died in their home in Mary Findlay Drive, Longforgan, on July 15.
Cumming is alleged to have repeatedly struck her with a knife or similar instrument.
A second charge accuses him of dangerous driving on the A90 Perth to Dundee road on the same date.
It is alleged that he clocked up speeds of more than 100mph and drove on the wrong side of the road before driving into the back of a moving lorry, injuring himself and Thomas Kiernan, who was in the cab of the lorry.
Judge Lord Woolman ruled that the trial date should be June 22 at the High Court in Glasgow.
