£200 reward offered over dumped rabbit Amos

£200 reward offered over dumped rabbit Amos

Dundee animal lovers have pledged reward cash in a bid to identify the person who dumped a rabbit in a “horrific condition” outside a rescue centre.

The sick bunny named Amos by his Scottish SPCA rescuers was found suffering from severe facial injuries and overgrown teeth in a black cat carrier outside the charity’s Petterden centre.

He was found by staff on Friday morning after having been left in the sun without food or water for more than two hours, and is now recovering at the centre.

Daryl Beech, from Kirriemuir animal charity Easywalkers, has put up a £200 reward for information leading to a conviction of the person who neglected and dumped Amos.

Daryl said he had been contacted by “lots” of people on the group’s Facebook site eager to chip in.

He said, “It’s early days, but people have already come forward to donate more cash in addition to the reward that we have put up.

“Hopefully somebody will see it and have a conscience and come forward and let us know who dumped him.”

The person who abandoned Amos could face six months in prison and a £5000 fine, and be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period, or even for life.

Lesley Clark, assistant manager at the Petterden centre, said Amos was doing “much better” and would later be rehomed.

She said, “His skin is still very dry and requires bathing but he is now off his painkillers and on antibiotics.

“He is very friendly and loves being handled so he was obviously cared for at some point in his life before he was neglected.”

CCTV footage shows a blue or green four-door saloon car arriving at the centre at 9.35am on Friday, stopping for a minute in the area where Amos was later found, then driving off.
