The fundraising effort to help Carnoustie youngster Brooke Ramsay realise her dream of being able to walk unaided continues to enjoy massive local support.
Last weekend brought a triple boost for the seven-year-old, who is poised to undergo an operation aimed at giving her the mobility denied by her condition.
Brooke’s parents, Stewart and Laura, are still anxiously awaiting a decision over whether or not the NHS will fund their daughter’s UK operation and hope that is on the near horizon.
In the meantime, they are continuing a determined campaign to raise as much as possible to meet the cost of the operation if necessary, and her aftercare.
Last week, pupils of Carlogie Primary School rallied with a rainbow day to raise funds for Brooke and Carnoustie twins Ayley and Chloe Hirsch, who are travelling to the US for similar surgery.
The Ramsay family then received a £1,000 boost from Carnoustie gala committee as part of the group’s annual awards and fundraising presentation night.
Another welcome addition to the fund came from a Saturday sponsored walk and cycle from Arbroath to Carnoustie and back in which mum Laura was joined on foot by Caroline Cargill, Cheris Whammond, Tracy Boyd, Amanda Stewart and Jackie Strachan.
Youngsters Fraser Martin and Arron Cumming pedalled the route along with Trevor Stranock.
A hectic but very rewarding weekend was completed by a generous £400 donation from Tayside Classic Car Club.
“We are getting a lot of support and everyone has been fantastic,” said Laura.
Brooke’s operation will be carried out in Bristol and although the family do not know if they will require £15,000 or £40,000, depending on the NHS decision, they say they intend to keep on gathering as much financial support as possible to help with their daughter’s future.
Fundraising sights are now set on a big concert planned for Arbroath on November 21.
