A teenager has died after being found at the foot of Arbroath cliffs in the early hours of this morning.
The emergency services were alerted to reports of a missing 18-year-old at around 11.40pm on Thursday night.
Police teams, the coastguard and a rescue helicopter from RAF Kinloss all responded to reports that he might be in the area of Arbroath cliffs.
An extensive search began and, at around 4.30am, the teenager was found at the foot of the cliffs.
He had sustained major injuries and, despite the efforts of rescuers and paramedics, was pronounced dead before the helicopter delivered him to Ninewells Hospital.
A police spokesman said: “The deceased’s details will not be released until he has been formally identified. There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident and, as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal”.
