Arbroath college catering students’ skills put to test in public restaurant

Dundee and Angus College’s restaurant at its Arbroath campus has been relaunched after an upgrade.
The restaurant and caf have been merged to form Restaurant 56 in the Esk building.
It will now be offering morning coffees, caf-bar lunches, restaurant lunches and dinner in the evening.
Nearly 70 students are involved in the running of Restaurant 56, representing four different hospitality and professional cookery courses.
New furnishings and screened areas have allowed the restaurant to offer a wider range of menus to cater for a variety of tastes.
Louisa Kingham, who is head of hospitality retail and tourism, said: “The restaurant has always maintained a good reputation for its food and high levels of service but we have never really promoted the full range of amenities on offer.”
