A Brechin man who barged back into a friend’s house demanding a hammer after sharing legal highs with him has been jailed for 80 days.
Roy Rankin was described as being “very agitated” on April 5 last year when he pushed open the door of his drinking friend’s flat in the town’s Southesk Terrace.
The 29-year-old admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on that date and defence solicitor Bob Bruce said the offence was now a matter of some embarrassment to his client.
The court was told witnesses believed Rankin was heavily under the influence of alcohol and kept asking for a hammer. He was said to be aggressive and annoyed, spitting as he spoke.
Eventually, his friend said he would go into the kitchen to look for a hammer and while he was there, dialled 999.
Police arrived shortly after and Rankin was found in a nearby garden.
Mr Bruce said: “Mr Rankin is a good worker but drink principally is his problem.”
The solicitor said Rankin is serving a prison sentence and has been making steps to address his problems.
Sheriff Gregor Murray told Rankin: “You have a shocking record. While this must have been frightening for your friend, I take into account the fact that there was no harm to him.”
