The case against a former Provost of Angus accused of assaulting his elderly wife has been continued until next month.
Brian Milne, 79, denies assaulting Irene Milne at the Balhousie Antiquary Care Home, Westway, Arbroath on December 19 by slapping her on the head.
Retired teacher and ex-SNP councillor Mr Milne, of Kirkton Place, Arbroath had been due to face trial, but Forfar sheriff court was told an essential Crown witness was not available.
The matter was continued until February 10. Defence solicitor Nick Whelan told the court the case was causing “considerable angst” for the couple.
Sheriff Gregor Murray previously imposed a special bail condition on Mr Milne, banning him from being alone with his wife in the care home.
Also at Forfar: A warrant was issued for the arrest of a man who failed to appear on a string of motoring related charges.
Paul Stewart, 29, of Montrose Street, Brechin denies driving or attempting to drive in the town’s Drumachlie Loan on March 16 last year with excess alcohol, failing to stop after colliding with another vehicle and failing to report the accident. He also denies failing to provide his details to police on the same date.
