An Angus man caught with one of the largest stashes of child abuse material ever uncovered in Scotland has been jailed for eight-and-a-half months.
Edwin Kirk, 53, collected over 102,000 obscene images and almost a week’s worth of videos, over the course of a decade at his Montrose home, a court heard.
Kirk, who has a similar previous conviction, told police he was interested in “beautiful children being naked and sexually available”.
Dundee Sheriff Court was told previously that police acting on a tip-off had raided Kirk’s home in June.
The court heard a total of 102,129 images and 166 hours of videos were recovered.
John Boyle, defending, said the majority of images were at the lowest level of severity.
Kirk, of Montrose, admitted possessing indecent images of children between April 2004 and June 2014.
He also admitted possessing “extreme pornography” showing women engaged in sexual activity with animals between January 2012 and June 2014 and breaching bail by possessing two USB keys and downloading adult pornography on August 27.
Sheriff Alastair Brown said the case involved the second-largest amount of child abuse material he had ever had to deal with and prison was “unavoidable”.
Kirk was also placed on the sex offenders register for ten years.
