An Angus fuel station which has been accused of profiteering with its high fuel prices is having a one-day special when prices will undercut supermarkets.
The Courier revealed earlier this month that Stracathro Services, off the A90 dual carriageway, had not changed its prices for two-and-a-half years.
As prices have crashed over the past six months, motorists have still been paying 148.9p a litre for unleaded petrol and 152.9p for diesel there.
However, on Sunday the station is charging just £1 a litre for fuel if people also purchase five litres of screenwash.
A spokeswoman for the station said: “We thought we would give some of our regular customers a good deal.
“We are also hoping to attract a few customers who haven’t been here before.”
The spokeswoman said the promotion was not in response to negative publicity about the normal prices but something that they had been planning for a while.
She added: “We are running the promotion for eight hours, from 10am to 6pm. It will be interesting to see what the response to it is.
“We have a well stocked and varied shop so we are hoping people see what other things we’ve got on offer.”
The 24-hour station previously said they were primarily a “bunkering” site, for haulage firms on monthly contracts but were also used by members of the public as an emergency fuel stop between Dundee and Aberdeen.
The station’s regular prices have been described as “blatant profiteering” by the Fair Fuel UK campaign.
