Angus today took centre stage in a new bid which will see Scotland’s golfing heritage pitched to over 20 million Chinese fans of the sport.
The iconic coloured umbrella dome of Simpson’s in Carnoustie the world’s second oldest golf shop welcomed a crew from the China Golf Channel as they filmed part of a trio of travelogue films to showcase golf’s development in the cradle of the game.
Simpson’s owner David Valentine (above) said the scale of Chinese opportunity remains staggering for the Scottish game and the nation’s wider tourism sector.
St Andrews, Carnoustie and the Old Course at Musselburgh are among the golfing venues the Chinese visitors have focused on during the whistle-stop tour.
Chinese Golf Channel presenter Li Wei Jian and anchorman Clement Zhang admitted the bracing winter Angus air was a bit of a shock.
“It has been very interesting to come here and there is a lot of history,” he said.
“We come here as the child to see the grandfather in the birthplace of golf it is in the blood.”
