Councillors are being urged to make Angus the first authority in Scotland to back Frank’s Law.
This week Dundee United legend Frank Kopel’s widow will seek the support of Angus Council in joining a demand for the Scottish Government to close the loophole that leaves under-65s with dementia facing the burden of paying for their personal care.
Amanda Kopel nursed her husband through the harrowing condition after he was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 59.
Frank passed away last April just after his 65th birthday and The Courier is backing the Frank’s Law campaign that Mrs Kopel is pursuing with a petition to the Scottish Parliament.
She will address elected members at the full meeting of Angus Council on Thursday before Montrose councillor David May presents a motion calling on chief executive Richard Stiff to write to the First Minister asking her to “introduce a ‘Frank’s Law so that free personal care is extended to under-65s with dementia.”
