Angus Council budget: members target millions more in savings
ByGraham Brown
The second phase of a three-year Angus Council spending strategy will be set out at the authority’s budget meeting in Forfar when it gets under way at 11am.
Some £5.6 million of savings are expected to be agreed for 2015/16, with a further £6.8 million scheduled for 2016/17.
‘Spend to save’ and ‘cross-party working’ are phrases expected to feature prominently when councillors convene in Forfar’s Town & County Hall.
The 2015/16 savings have been achieved from areas including meals on wheels and a review of the area’s youth justice team.
But finance spokesman Alex King has already warned further cuts of up to £20 million may be required in Angus by 2019.LIVE UPDATES:
