Residents of Tayview Caravan Park on Monifieth coastline were evacuated after a bomb scare at the beach on Sunday night.
Tayside Police cordoned off both ends of the path leading along the shore at around 7pm leaving a radius of around 200 yards, after a woman out walking her dog had raised the alarm.
An object around two metres in length, badly rusted and covered in green algae was found covered in four-and-a-half inches of silt around 400 yards from the waterline.
A specialist Navy bomb disposal team attended the scene, however the metal cylinder turned out to be a mooring bollard that had washed ashore.
Inspector Gordon Cryle was stationed outside the caravan park gates, turning dog walkers away from the area.
He said, “A member of the public reported she had seen an object on the beach and the area was shut off as a precautionary measure.
“We asked some of the occupants of caravans close to the site to vacate until the bomb disposal team arrived to assess the situation.
“The path leading along the beach has been cordoned off at both ends to keep people back a safe distance.”
