A waddling pup is to receive a life-changing hip replacement operation after a magnificent response to his plight.
Within days of labrador/staffordshire cross Tye’s troubles being highlighted in The Courier, thousands of pounds poured in to Angus Dog Rescue and the charity has now confirmed a date has been set for the hirpling doggy’s date with a specialist veterinary surgeon.
After the young dog came into the care of the organisation it quickly became clear that he had major mobility problems.
X-rays revealed a case of double hip dysplasia which was described by one of the charity’s vets as the most severe she had seen.
The problem in Tye’s back legs causes him severe pain and a waddling gait.
Treatment to replace both hips will cost £6,000 to £8,000, but after half that sum quickly came in to the charity following The Courier’s article, an operation for Tye at a specialist Fife surgery has now been scheduled before the end of this month.
Angus Dog Rescue chairman Ian Robb said: “We really were overwhelmed by the reaction and generosity of people after Tye’s situation was highlighted.
“Courier readers were spectacular and a lot of people who donated were pensioners who themselves had gone through a hip replacement operation and knew the difference it had made to their life.
“We now have enough to cover the first part of the treatment and that will involve the replacement of his left hip, which is the worst side … but there will still be a very long road to go for Tye.”
