A historic Montrose hotel that has gone on the market at a knock-down price of £295,000 is attracting considerable interest — giving rise to hopes that it could reopen its doors in the not too distant future.
The 14-bedroom Corner House Hotel, one of the longest established in theto wn, went into liquidation a month ago with the loss of 12 jobs.
“The inquiries are coming from various parties, but mostly people involved in the hotel business,” said Rose Crawford, who is insolvency manager for Henderson Loggie, Dundee.
A combination of factors had caused the closure. The business took a hit when the smoking ban in public places came into force, the current financial climate had certainly not helped and the hotel lost some trade when thenearby bingo hall was converted into licensed premises.
However, since going on the market the hotel has attracted “quite a reasonable amount of interest.”
The Corner House was bought 12 years ago by a partnership that included Alistair and Irene Belford who have run it since then.
