Angus Council insists progress is being made on solving electrical problems at County Buildings

Staff at the Angus Council County Buildings in Forfar should finally resume normal service this week after over a month of disruption due to an electrical fault.

Tayside Fire and Rescue have been repeatedly called out to the Market Street base over the last three weeks to respond to false alarms and workers have been plagued by problems with the computer system.

The local authority says it has finally got to grips with the issue, which should be fixed by the weekend.

A spokeswoman said, “Some progress was made at the weekend to address the problems with the electrical power supply at County Buildings in Forfar.

“The mobile generator is still being used to power some parts of the building, but work to replace all of the sub-mains cabling on site has been completed.

“Other than some momentary breaks in power, the electrical system has been operating normally and there have been no fire alarms since Thursday.

“Final tests of each part of the system will be done over the next few days in preparation for the entire building being returned to the mains supply on Thursday or Friday.”

Employees at the headquarters have had their working day interrupted on several occasions by the fire alarm going off, sometimes two or three times in the same day.
