A 45-year-old woman arrested on Thursday continues to be questioned by police in connection with the death of 48-year-old Robert Brereton, from Bonnybridge, whose body was found in a flat in Forfar’s Manor Court.
The discovery of the body sparked a police operation, which also focused on another property in the town.
Mr Brereton’s have said that they are “stunned and shocked” by his death.
His sister Mary Graham described him as “an awful joker” and “just a nice guy.”
She added, “I can’t believe this has happened. He liked the bookies and liked a drink, but was never any trouble to anybody.
“Everyone in the town knew him and we were very close.”
A report in relation to the incident has been submitted to the procurator fiscal, and it is expected that the woman detained by police will appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Monday.
On Friday night, however, police had not officially confirmed that the woman had been charged in connection with the death.
The officer leading the inquiry, Detective Chief Inspector Ally Reid, renewed the appeal for anyone who was in the area in the early hours of Thursday to come forward. Police are especially keen to speak to anyone who was in and around Glamis Road and Craig o’ Loch Road soon after midnight.
Door to door inquiries are ongoing, and customers of local pubs are also being traced.
DCI Reid added, “There was a call made to Crimestoppers in relation to a female seen in Craig o’ Loch Road shortly after half-past midnight on Thursday morning.
“We are keen to speak to individuals in the area at that time who may have seen this female.
The Glamis Road inquiries have now concluded but police are still carrying out a detailed forensic examination of the property at Manor Court.”
