Arbroath common good property consultation goes online

The public consultation over a controversial review of common good properties in Arbroath has gone live online.

The Angus Council review resulted in a number of recommendations relating to seven properties in the burgh and whether they should be classified as common good.

People are now being asked for their feedback on the findings and evidence that would assist the council in determining the status of any assets.

The council is particularly interested in evidence proving Arbroath library should not be classified as part of the Arbroath Common Good.

Copies of title deeds relating to assets including the library have been posted in the documents in the Have Your Say section of the council’s website.

Residents can complete an online consultation form and representations can be also made in writing to the council’s head of law and administration.

A closing date of Saturday, December 31, has been set for the consultation, but the council has said that may be extended if required.

The library row has led to hostile exchanges among councillors after Bob Spink said the move to transfer the David Corsar-gifted building from the common good would be “corporate theft”.
