Angus Council’s tourism spokeswoman says people will come from ”near and far” for the county’s inaugural heritage week.
Brechin councillor Mairi Evans claimed next month’s celebration of historic architecture will drive tourism into the area and showcase what Angus has to offer.
The first Angus Heritage Week, which runs from September 7-14, will include almost 30 opportunities to take a fresh look at some of the most fascinating buildings in Angus.
Ms Evans said: ”Over the centuries, the people of Angus have left behind a unique and ever-present legacy to our county a wonderful selection of buildings, historical and modern.
”Whether private homes, public buildings, places of worship, purely functional or highly decorative, these places have played their part in the story of Angus.
”Angus Heritage Week will encourage people from near and far to celebrate the distinctive built heritage of Angus, from grand houses to farm cottages, from medieval abbeys and churches to the very latest architectural designs.”
Angus Heritage Week incorporates the popular Doors Open Days event on the weekend of September 8 and 9, when places across the county which are rarely open to the public such as the recently-renovated Merchants House in Brechin and Balmashanner Hill’s war memorial will be welcoming visitors.
It will also be possible to go behind the scenes of buildings including the sheriff court in Arbroath and the fire stations in Arbroath and Forfar, while tours will be available around Cortachy Castle near Kirriemuir and Kinnaird Castle near Brechin.
