Police rushed to an Angus bank alarm call only to discover the door had been left open.
Royal Bank of Scotland bosses have launched a probe after the front doors of its Carnoustie branch were left unlocked.
The mistake was only discovered when care worker Caroline Lamb (22) leaned against the door while waiting on a bus and set off the bank’s alarm system.
She said: ”I couldn’t believe it, my eyes just about popped out of my head. They must have been open since lunchtime on Saturday.
“There are wooden front doors with three steps leading up and I had just sat down after my night shift to wait for the bus. I leaned back on the door and the next thing I knew they both opened and the alarm went off.”
A police spokeswoman said: ”Officers attended at around 8.30am on Sunday for what subsequently turned out to be a false alarm.”
A Royal Bank of Scotland spokeswoman said: ”We are investigating why these doors could have opened.”
