An investigation has been launched into a suspicious fire at a storage shed at Montrose harbour.
The alarm was raised at 5.30pm on Wednesday, with large amounts of smoke coming from the building on Cobden Street.
Two appliances from Montrose Fire Station were dispatched. Firefighters used two sets of breathing apparatus and a jet, taking about 90 minutes to extinguish the blaze.
An aerial platform from Dundee was called to assist the operation amid concerns the fire would spread to an adjoining building which housed a large amount of timber.
Group manager Roy Dunsire said: ”The work by the teams of firefighters to prevent the fire from spreading was excellent.”
He added a report on the fire had now been passed to police, who would begin enquiries today.
”It appears to be suspicious there is no other reason why the fire would have started,” he said.
A spokesman for Tayside Police said: ”We have a report from the fire officer saying the fire is possibly suspicious and we have launched a joint investigation.”
