The killer of Angus jockey Jan Wilson has failed in a bid to have his sentence cut.
Peter Brown (38) was jailed for at least seven-and-a-half years for the manslaughter of 19-year-old Jan from Greenhead Farm, near Forfar, and Irishman Jamie Kyne (18).
Brown, originally from Dyce, started a fire in a block of flats at Norton, North Yorkshire, in an act of revenge after being refused entry to a party there in September 2009.
The blaze ripped through the building, killing the promising jockeys, who were in a flat on the floor above.
Brown was found guilty following a three-week trial at Leeds Crown Court.
The sentencing judge told Brown he was a danger to society.
At an appeal heard at the Criminal Appeal Court in London, Brown’s lawyers argued there were too many inconsistencies in the timing of the events on the night of the fire for the jury to reach a verdict safely.
However, the plea to reduce his minimum prison sentence was rejected by judges.
They stated, “These were all matters already considered by the jury.
“We see no grounds to doubt the safety of the convictions.”
Miss Wilson’s parents Margaret and Drew had travelled from their Forfar home to attend the appeal hearing.
Mrs Wilson said, “Jamie and Jan were working hard, up in the morning enjoying their dream and it has been taken away from them.
“We just have to live with it.”
