Summer works to shore up Forfar’s Balmashanner war memorial

A summer works programme is planned for Balmashanner war memorial in Forfar.
The 1921 monument, which overlooks the town from the south, was previously identified as being in need of around £90,000 of repair work, including conservation of the turret.
Under a plan due to get under way in late summer or early autumn, the C-listed structure is scheduled to undergo a project which will see the bartisan tied to the main tower with galvanised metal straps.
Other conservation measures and landscaping are included in a proposal for which Angus Council has lodged an application for listed building consent.
Forfar Community Council said it is “heartened” by the plan.
