Lyninghills residents saw steam “bubbling” from a cover at 10pm on Monday after water apparently got into a link box. Firefighters attended and Scottish Hydro Electric engineers found a “small fault” in a line. Resident Susan Robertson, 58, said: “There was steam and smoke coming up from under the manhole cover. “It was gurgling loudly and bubbling quite badly. It was really hot there was a lot of heat coming out of it.” The firm will investigate what could have caused the reported steam. A spokeswoman said: “There was smoke escaping from a manhole cover. “We discovered it was a fault with one of the general link boxes. “A full investigation will take place but initial reports suggest water got in the link box.”
