Locals report seeing steam and smoke coming from manhole during Forfar electrical fault

An electrical fault left 45 Forfar homes without power for several hours while smoke was reported coming from a manhole.

Lyninghills residents saw steam “bubbling” from a cover at 10pm on Monday after water apparently got into a link box.

Firefighters attended and Scottish Hydro Electric engineers found a “small fault” in a line.

Resident Susan Robertson, 58, said: “There was steam and smoke coming up from under the manhole cover.

“It was gurgling loudly and bubbling quite badly. It was really hot there was a lot of heat coming out of it.”

The firm will investigate what could have caused the reported steam.

A spokeswoman said: “There was smoke escaping from a manhole cover.

“We discovered it was a fault with one of the general link boxes.

“A full investigation will take place but initial reports suggest water got in the link box.”
