Monifieth wildflower meadow shows its pollen power
ByThe Courier Reporter
An explosion of blue cornflowers and red poppies, along with 15 other varieties of wild flower, is attracting visitors animal and human to a Monifieth green area.
The huge £20,000 wildflower meadow, which is now in full bloom in Monifieth West End Park, is to become a home to bees, birds and butterflies.
The meadow project came about thanks to the efforts of the Monifieth Community Council, particularly members John Thornton and John Whellams.
The pair sowed the seeds on their meadow project in October last year, and now the flowers have grown to around 3ft.
The project was funded through a £20,000 grant from the Angus Environmental Trust and the community council were also supported by Angus Council’s ranger service and the parks department.
