The headteacher of Arbroath Academy has been seconded to run Arbroath High School.
High school head Gillian Rew did not return to her post last week following the end of the Angus schools’ autumn holiday break.
Mrs Rew, a former deputy rector at Morgan Academy in Dundee, was suspended at the beginning of this month over allegations of drunken behaviour during an S6 excursion to Lockerbie.
The local authority’s education department has confirmed the head’s duties are now with colleague Doreen Redfern, head of Arbroath Academy.
An Angus Council spokeswoman said: “Doreen Redfern, the head teacher of Arbroath Academy, has been seconded to Arbroath High School. The period of the secondment has not been fixed.
“The suspension of a senior member of staff at Arbroath High School continues.”
The senior pupils were on an outdoor adventure trip and it is understood a complaint was made about the teacher’s behaviour in front of pupils.
Angus Council had confirmed a member of staff at Arbroath High had been suspended pending the outcome of an investigation.
In the wake of her suspension, pupils at the Arbroath school used social media to speak of their high regard for the head teacher.
