With road conditions challenging due to heavy rain, coupled with roadworks, the decision was taken to fly the 90-year-old woman to hospital in Dundee. The incident happened around 9.40am at East Memus near Forfar during today’s heavy downpour which has left road surfaces treacherous. It took the air ambulance 10 minutes to get to the location and just eight minutes to fly the woman to Ninewells Hospital. A spokesman for the air ambulance said: “The heavy rain, roadworks and leaves on the road obviously impact on how fast an ambulance can drive. “The rural location also helps in terms of landing but touching down in built up areas isn’t impossible but obviously this was easier. “Our aim was to get the casualty to Ninewells as quickly as possible.”
