Police trying to find van driver who helped Carnoustie veteran after mugging
ByThe Courier Reporter
Police inquiries are continuing into the weekend mugging of a Carnoustie ex-serviceman.
The 82-year-old was robbed of just £2 as he was waiting on a bus to go to the town’s British Legion on the eve of Remembrance weekend.
He suffered a bruised cheek and chin after being knocked out in the incident at 9pm on Friday and Police Scotland have appealed for a Good Samaritan van driver to come forward.
The man was driving in Barry Road and after the attack the victim who we have agreed not to name told The Courier he believed the appearance of the vehicle scared off the two assailants.
A spokesman said: “Police are very keen to trace a man who was driving a small, possibly white, works van who came to the victim’s assistance shortly afterwards in Barry Road.
“Officers are making inquiries into the full circumstances, and anyone who has information that could assist police with their inquiries, in particular the driver of the white van, should contact Police Scotland on 101.
“Alternatively information can be passed anonymously via the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
