A doggy-paddling kitty is recovering after using up one of her nine lives in the chilly waters of Arbroath harbour.
Sharp-eyed workers spotted the female cat in the Angus marina this week after the pet had fallen in.
They scooped up the freezing feline in a fishing net and she is now recovering at the Petterden Scottish SPCA rescue centre, between Dundee and Forfar, where staff have affectionately nicknamed the moggy Ariel after the character from the Disney hit, The Little Mermaid.
Animal rescue officer Steph Alexander said: “Poor Ariel was frantically trying to clamber on to a boat with no luck when she was spotted.
“We understand she was seen falling from the boat so it may be that she had jumped onto it when it was berthed.
“She would soon have drowned so we’re extremely glad the men saw her and acted quickly. They were able to reach her using a net before calling us for help.”
Steph added: “Ariel was a shivering wreck when I arrived and had sustained a sore paw but she’s doing really well now.
“There are plenty of flats and houses near the harbour so it’s possible she belongs to someone locally.
“Hopefully we can reunite Ariel with her owner but if not we’ll find this super friendly girl a loving new home.”
Anyone who recognises Ariel is being asked to contact the Scottish SPCA’s Angus centre on 03000 999 999.
