Petition calls for Stonehaven flood warning system
ByDamon Rhind
A petition has been launched calling for a tailored early flood warning system for the Stonehaven area.
Driven by Sir Robert Smith, MP for West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine, and local councillor Peter Bellarby, the petition was yesterday nudging towards 250 signatories a week since it went live online.
The elected representatives want the Scottish Government and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) to urgently provide a specific warning system for coastal flooding at Stonehaven and the coast north and south of Stonehaven.
They said the area has suffered serious flooding from the sea recently, causing distress and worry to residents whose homes were affected by the coastal flooding.
Sir Robert, pictured, said Sepa had recently provided a tailored warning system for the Moray Firth. A similar system, he said, also exists for much of the Angus coastline.
On his website, the MP said: “We need a specific warning so that residents can take action before any flooding takes place.”
