Forfar Amateur Swimming Club has paid a special tribute to one of its leading lights as the historic outfit enters a new era.

At the club’s latest awards dance, president Andy Reid received a presentation of engraved glassware in recognition of his involvement stretching back more than four decades to when he won his first medal in the town centre pool.

The handover was made by Lesley Cromar, who in succeeding Andy as president is the first woman to hold the post in the 127-year history of the body.

Andy, who works with Angus Council, was a five-year-old when he scooped his first Forfar Falcons medal in the early 1970s.

He swam with the club until the age of 13, before moving to Fife, but returned to the Angus town in 1990 and since then has been involved in a number of roles with the Falcons, as well as managing to pursue a successful Masters swimming career.

Andy is a Scottish Masters champion as well as a multiple medallist at British championship level, having also performed at a high level in European Masters events in locations including Paris, Innsbruck and Prague.
