The man was part of a group in the sea off Montrose but his disappearance in “bad winds” caused his friends to call the coastguard. However, the missing man was found safe and well several miles up the coast, near St Cyrus. A spokesman for Aberdeen Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre said a helicopter was originally asked for but the man was found soon after 2.30pm. He said: “A group of kayakers had lost one of their number. They reported him missing to us so we’ve been out looking for him. “But he has just been found safe and well up the coast near St Cyrus. “The kayakers had been at Montrose but the wind is pretty bad down there. “He hadn’t been able to get back to Montrose and so headed all the way up there. “We did ask for the helicopter from RAF Lossiemouth but obviously it wasn’t needed.” Both Montrose’s inshore and all-weather lifeboats were sent out to search, as well as the Stonehaven and Montrose coastguard teams.
