Teenager sent threatening texts after break-up

A teenager who bombarded a former girlfriend with threatening and obscene messages after the pair broke up has been told to “grow up” by a sheriff.

Thomas Parsons will return to court for sentence next month after appearing before Sheriff Gregor Murray at Forfar on Thursday, where the 18-year-old admitted sending messages of an offensive, indecent or menacing character to a female from his home address or elsewhere on November 3.

Parsons, of Castle Gardens, Edzell, also admitted sending threats to the life of a male by facebook on the same date.

A narrative presented to the court revealed Parsons and the girl had been together for around 11 months until earlier this year when she broke off the relationship.

The accused made a number of attempts to reconcile the relationship but, when he was unsuccessful, he became abusive towards the girl via social media and by voicemail.

In one Facebook message he told her: “I will make your life a living hell.”

Sheriff Murray told Parsons: “It is quite clear you have the views and beliefs of someone who is not prepared to act as a responsible member of society.

“Grow up, change your views and behave like an adult.

“I will defer sentence for a social work report to be prepared, but if you commit any further offence in that intervening period, you will be going straight to jail.”

The case was continued until January 15.
