The family of Angus toddler Cally Simpson have offered their festive tribute to medical staff caring for the youngster.
Kate Miller and Steven Simpson have also thanked the thousands of wellwishers whose support they say has been vital since horror struck on the four-year-old’s first foreign holiday in June when she almost drowned in a Spanish swimming pool.
Cally was with her dad and grandmother, Wendy Simpson, when she was discovered unconscious at the bottom of the pool in the Villa Marina resort complex in Salou.
She was rushed to a children’s hospital in Barcelona as mum Kate battled an air traffic control dispute to make the dash to be by her daughter’s bedside.
Cally spent many weeks in a coma but her condition has improved since she was flown back to Scotland and her mum posted a grateful message to medics, family and friends after celebrating the Christmas Day she feared she would never see.
Santa visited the youngster in Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, which the family hope Cally may be able to leave in the first half of next year.
In the aftermath of the holiday incident, a Saving Cally Simpson Facebook page was flooded with messages of support from across the globe. With over 7,000 likes, it continues to be used by the family for updates on the little girl’s positive progress.
In her Christmas Eve posting, Kate said: “Cally, myself and Steven would like to wish all our loving families and friends a very Merry Christmas, also to all the wonderful nurses and doctors that are working to help all the sick kiddies get better. Hope everyone has a fantastic day.
“We would also like to thank you all for all the support you gave us through this last year, we couldn’t have got through it without you guys. Much love to all.”
Cally is attending a specialist nursery and the family’s goal is to have her back home by the time she turns five in May.
