A man has died after being struck by a train at Stonehaven, leading to the closure of the east coast rail line in both directions.
The tragedy happened shortly before 12.30pm.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the line close to Stonehaven railway station at 12.15pm … after a report that a person had been struck by a train.
“Colleagues from Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify the man and inform his family.
“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be will be sent to the local procurator fiscal.”
National Rail advised that the incident would result in delays, and buses were requested to run between Dundee and Aberdeen.
Rail services returned to normal around 3.30pm.
