Forfar councillors have welcomed a listed building in the town centre being converted into flats.
Caledonia Property Co Ltd was granted planning permission by Angus Council’s development standards committee to form six flats at 9 Castle Street.
The B-listed property, above the Salvation Army charity shop and Coral bookmaker, was formerly the County Hotel and dates from about 1800.
Councillor Ian McLaren said: “This application for flats should safeguard the appearance and future of this listed building, therefore, I am happy to support it.”
The flats would be on the first and second floor of the building and also in the roof space. An office on the first floor will be retained.
The first council meeting of the year also saw plans for a new house to be built in Monifieth approved.
Planning permission in principle for a two-storey development located in garden ground at Fontstone House at 9 Castle Street was given the green light.
Councillors also noted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) for Dubton Farm, to the north of Brechin, which received planning permission last October for a mixed-use development of about 100 homes.
The PAN follows a request from councillors in November for more detail including a site plan to provide context for the consideration of key issues in determining the application.
Brechin Community Council has been sent the update for the development of the 29-hectare site, which was first included in the 2009 Angus Local Plan.
The results of this consultation will be considered when full planning permission is sought for the development at a later stage.
