An Angus village which has previously suffered deluge misery is to have its own community flood plan.
The first stage of the document has now gone out to Ferryden Community Council to get its views on the flood strategy.
In 2010, heavy rain caused the village’s main road to be blocked overnight, while areas of Ferryden were under water in 2012, leaving cars badly damaged.
Since then, the community has been concerned about flooding and the effect of strong waves coming ashore from Montrose Basin.
Members of the community council previously met a representative of Angus Council roads division to discuss how the two can work together to protect the village from further flooding.
Speaking after the group’s latest meeting, Gordon Paterson, of Ferryden Community Council, said: “We were provided with the first draft of the flood plan created by the council.
“It will be useful when the group meets next.”
Neil Young, of Angus Council’s flood team, confirmed the local authority has undertaken minor works to improve drainage but recognised this was not a cure.
He was able to provide a template of the document but the first part is an information leaflet, the second part needs the community’s views a list of vulnerable people to be contacted in case of flooding will also be added and, thirdly, they will include a list of residents to contact in case of an incident.
