Group ‘very disappointed’ with Arbroath fireworks fundraising effort

The group behind efforts to reintroduce a major fireworks event to Arbroath have been “very disappointed” by the local response to fundraising.
Fireworks for Arbroath placed collection buckets around the town last month in the hope of raising around £1,000 for their proposed November 5 event.
There was no main fireworks night in the town last year, which prompted the group to form.
But committee member Kevin Smith said a recent check revealed less than £50 mostly in copper coins.
Mr Smith said: “Having emptied most of our collection buckets/boxes, it was very disappointing to find less than £50 in them.”
The group have vowed to redouble their efforts and ask for each member of their Facebook page to donate £1.
Mr Smith added: “Our website shows 561 members if only those persons would put just £1 in we would be close to our £1,000 target for the end of the month.”
The group are participating in the “green coin” scheme at Asda, where shoppers can drop tokens in boxes representing local good causes and the winner receives £100.
