A major multi-agency search was mounted on Sunday amid fears for the safety of an Arbroath man.
The operation stretched over several hours and was centred on the cliffs area to the north of the town after the reported discovery of personal items there in the morning.
Police, the RNLI, Coastguard and a rescue helicopter were all involved in the operation, which was stood down just before 2pm when the male at the centre of the search was traced safe and well.
The alarm was raised around 11am and was followed by a Police Scotland appeal over the whereabouts of 33-year-old Christopher Ruxton.
He had been last seen in the town’s Westport Bar around 10.30pm on Saturday night and police issued a plea for the public’s help in tracing him, saying they were concerned about his welfare.
