Paranormal investigators have been turned down from holding a ghost hunt at a former Angus asylum.
The ghost hunters had put the former Sunnyside Hospital in Montrose at the top of their wishlist but it’s too unsafe.
The team wanted to investigate the building which is now boarded up and riddled with asbestos after closing in 2011.
Afterdark is a company based in Arbroath and its investigators travel all over the UK to investigate ghostly phenomena.
A spokesman said they have contacted NHS Tayside twice already this year and been up to Sunnyside to see what kind of condition it is in.
He added: “There is no way we would be able to investigate it unless repairs were made to it as it is too unsafe to take customers to.
“The health and safety of our customers and staff comes first and with our inspection and the NHS saying that it is also unsafe for us to be allowed into the buildings, then there is nothing that we can do about it until repairs are made.”
Afterdark’s events usually include various vigils, ouija board experiments, human pendulum experiments, and through electromagnetic field meters and electronic voice phenomena equipment.
The former Sunnyside Hospital was open for 230 years and was the oldest psychiatric hospital in Scotland.
Notable patients include the father of Arthur Conan Doyle, who was a talented artist, and Adam Christie, who sculpted the Hillside Robert Burns plaque.
Since the building closed, it has been struck by thieves, with copper piping from the attic space and top floor being taken.
