A man has been detained in connection with an alleged assault in the centre of Brechin on Sunday.
Speculation was rife in the burgh that the Royal Bank of Scotland in Clerk Street had been robbed in the early hours of the morning, but police said no robbery had taken place.
A spokesman said a man has been detained over the matter, and police in Angus are continuing their inquiries.
Constable Bill Rattray earlier took to Twitter to appeal for witnesses to the incident.
He said: “Investigating an assault outside Bank of Scotland, Brechin. Contrary to Brechin rumour mill, it’s not a bank robbery.”
