Commonwealth Games organisers probe claims about treatment of Barry Buddon staff
ByMichael Alexander
Organisers are investigating claims Commonwealth Games staff were not given water, shade or sunscreen at the Barry Buddon shooting events.
It has been reported stewards were bussed in at 5am each day from student digs to work for up to 14 hours with just one sandwich to see them through their shift.
They claim they only got to sit during a 20-minute lunch break, that people were collapsing and when they went back to digs at night there were no cooking facilities.
The stewards worked for private contractor Stadium TM.
The firm has denied the claims but security guards working at the same site for a different company told of similar issues.
The stewards, from all over Britain, were told they would be given food and accommodation for a fortnight plus wages of £7.50 per hour.
They claim bosses appeared unready for the blazing temperatures of the past week.
Glasgow 2014 press spokeswoman Jackie Brock-Doyle said: “It’s one contractor that was out at the shooting. We are following up with the contractor right now.”
