Montrose restaurant Roo’s Leap has been given the go-ahead to have an outside bar.
The Australian-themed diner on Trail Drive had already been given planning permission to create an outdoor terrace, and an alcohol licence has now also been approved.
Delighted restaurant supervisor Lesley Mollison said: “We have got the licence now and it’s all going ahead.
“We aren’t sure of exact timescales but it will be quite progressive and could start as early as January.
“There will be an outdoor bar which will do cocktails and also have a gin section and a whisky section.
“We will also do really nice wines by the glass. We are building it with a view to accommodating large parties.
“There will be a covered roof terrace with heaters so it can be used in the winter months. It will also have a contemporary, cutting-edge design with low and high-level seating.”
The restaurant owners hope to have the bar up and running in May or June next year.
The proposals will mean four new jobs for Montrose.
Ron Campbell, chairman of Montrose Community Council, said the restaurant is very popular with residents in the Montrose area.
He said: “This is going to be an awfully good extension. It will be good for the area.”
