The long-running saga over ‘Steptoe’ house in Monikie has taken another twist.
The family home in Broomwell Gardens, which had been the subject of nine years of enforcement action by Angus Council, was due to go under the hammer by Future Property Auctions last week.
When the property company was contacted by The Courier after the sale, it stated the house had sold for an undisclosed sum.
However, it has now emerged that the Angus home was in fact withdrawn from the auction sale.
A representative from Future Property Auctions said it would now go under the hammer at their next Edinburgh sale on September 18.
Skiploads of material were removed from the home’s garden in 2007 after it was described by one councillor as looking like a scene from Steptoe and Son.
Further enforcement action was taken in 2009.
Angus Council hopes to see some of the £32,000 of costs incurred as a result of the action returned to them by the trustee if the property sells.
The property was the home of Alexander and Moira Ewart, who in 2005 each received 18-month jail sentences after being convicted of a fraud involving £50,000 from the estate of an elderly relative.
