A man is due to appear in court in connection with a serious assault in Brechin.
The incident in the early hours of Saturday morning resulted in a 35-year-old man being taken to Ninewells hospital and saw a section of the town’s Montrose Street closed off as part of the investigation.
Police Scotland said the man suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened around 2.20am.
The victim is understood to remain in a serious but stable condition in hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
Police launched an immediate appeal for information as a detailed examination was carried out by a number of officers.
The street remained closed for several hours on Saturday morning, with a Scottish Fire and Rescue crew from Brechin also at the scene.
A police spokesman said a 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Forfar sheriff court on Monday.
